Package Quantity | 1 long thread adapter (short adapter shown in image is for size reference only) |
Designed for those making automated or other type mechanical connect/disconnect methods for lightning protection with UHF series connectors on coax lines. The standard quick connector doesn't have enough thread length to easily mount in a metal flat or other mounting arrangement. This adapter has much more thread and includes a nut and washer for locking.
The overall female side length is about .80" and the thread length is about .60" long. As you can see in the last image, the length is considerably longer on the female side of this adapter compared to the regular adapter. This allows the adapter to be mounted on a thick or thicker bar or arm than the regular adapter.
Mounting can be accomplished by either using a hole slightly larger in diameter than the thread and using the supplied nut and washer for tightening or the metal mount can be drilled and threaded so the adapter can screw into the mount using the nut and washer for tightening if desired. Unless threading the hole in the metal mount the metal used for mounting needs to be about 3/32" or more thick to account for the gap between the thread and body on the adapter, if the metal is thinner you would need to supply a flat washer of your choice to build up the thickness of the metal mount.
Please note we are unable to help in design or technical questions on how to make or use these type mounts, I would suggest a review of the various ham radio publications and online sources.
Did you know ...
Many people ask about how much power will these handle and how is the VSWR of a quick adapter. The fact is, a quick adapter will actually perform quite well often operating with low VSWR and quite well at legal limit power. But it depends on a couple of things. First, it depends on your VSWR on your feedline just like anything else in that section of your station. Let your VSWR go high, and the performance of the quick adapter will suffer. Second and most of all, the factor affecting performance and power is the type of UHF female you have on your radio or device. The quick adapter must make contact on the shield side of the feedline with the edges of your female connector. That is really a pretty small area if you think about it. Some UHF female connectors or SO-239 connectors are quite honestly not up to specs and will be a bit smaller in diameter or the threads won't be quite able to make good contact, etc. Our quick adapter is designed to fit a certain standard, one of which most quality UHF females will easily meet. So the honest answer on how much power and VSWR is "it really depends on your female" connector on your radio or device and how well the quick adapter mates to the female.
