W5SWL Specs

General Design Characteristics of W5SWL connectors:

Assume sea level altitude. Design criteria for connectors only, we do not guarantee that your testing will have the same results due to variables outside our control. Adapters will vary and are not shown in these specs. We do not publish design characteristics for adapters and certain connectors. Subject to change without update to this page. Not responsible for typos. Specific details shown on item page may override this information as needed.  Zinc or diecast design connectors not included in this sheet. Torque does not assume tool usage, some are hand tighten and some are tool tighten. Crimp ferrules generally are copper in Nickel, Silver or Gold plating.  VSWR with + indicator means a math formula is involved based on Fo. We not provide maximum power levels, please use industry standards. Most popular connectors shown.

Surge Devices -  Frequency max is device specific. VSWR 1:1.5 to 1.5 with approximately .15dB to .2dB insertion loss and are typically 50 Ohms unless noted. Power handling according to gas tube, see our other write up on Surge Protector Power Ratings

This series is often debated and expected to do far more than it should. The specs generally are only so good up to about 300 MHz. Designed impedance is stated as approximately 50 Ohms but it will vary widely depending on the particular connector, installation and usage, therefore it is considered a non constant impedance and VSWR is not rated. For the frequencies involved, it generally has acceptable operational characteristics.

For our brand of connectors (by W5SWL) that are applicable, we have performed RL (Return Loss testing), insertion loss testing, frequency max, physical make up and usability, etc when we accept a design and we do continued spot testing as a routine in our well equipped test room. We also test against some very popular brand names in the high tech industry to establish what we call good and normal specs as well as representative comparisons.

We have done connectors long enough to know, as our many and wide range of customers* know as well, that our line of connectors perform quite well and at a affordable price structure. Try one of our brand of connectors, we are easy to get along with should one of our brand of connectors not work to your satisfaction.
