2025 changes to packing materials

As you know, parcels require packlng materials or "dunnage" as it is properly called. Particularly box type parcels. It usually just goes into the trash can once the parcel arrives. Going into the trash is ok for paper but not so much for those pesky foam peanuts which shouldn't go into the trash. We know packing can be recycled as well in those handy recycle bins but most of it simply goes to the landfill.

When we buy packing materials, it has a certain cost and believe it or not in the real world those costs are actually ever so slightly factored into the cost of either shipping or the products.

Now it seems to us, when we buy dunnage there is the cost as mentioned above, but also the cost to the trees and environment and the cost to procure and deliver that stuff as well. It is an endless cycle, buy it, ship it as padding in the box, then throw it out. Do it over and over again. Seems like a waste! And we want to reduce this.

Since we seem to get tons of needless mailings of certain catalogs and periodicals, all of which seem to have about the same paper thickness and type we obtain for packing, we decided we will recycle on our end catalogs and periodicals instead of toss those into the trash can destined for a landfill. We are of course choosey on which ones we will use, but we think it is a win - win situation. No waste of the paper by throwing it in the trash can, no excess purchasing of this same paper type for dunnage, and overall we keep both the environment a bit healthier and costs for packing down. Seems like something we should do, and what others should consider.

And who knows, if you like engineering, trade and professsional periodicals perhaps the page we use for your parcel will make at least one page of interesting reading :)

73, and have a good 2025!
