Boxes and Parcels, Parcels and Boxes

Boxes and Parcels, Parcels and Boxes

We sometimes get questions about why we use a certain size box or bubble envelope. Sometimes we hear we could use a bit smaller box and save the expense of the better/larger box. Or we could use a smaller envelope.

After shipping what seems like millions of boxes and watching parcel sorting and different carriers in how they deliver we actually have a pretty good picture of what carrier will work well with a box or envelope and what areas of the country we should use a box or an envelope to keep it from being delayed, misdelivered or even damaged.

Some items require a certain size box no matter what, but for most smaller type items that need a box we chose a bit more expensive box that does not typically get lost in the automated sorting centers and one that the label will stay label side up where it will not miss a scan. For example, USPS deliveries where the carrier has to sort their deliveries, we want to make it easy to load and sort the box, it doesn't get misdelivered, sorted wrong, fall out of place, etc if it is just a right size. And it makes life easier for the person who is delivering the parcel. For UPS, a box with the label always facing the scanner is a must. By the way if have never seen a UPS sorting center, go to YouTube and watch some of the videos on it. Truly amazing! The same standard works for our bubble envelopes, most of those are a custom size for the very same reasons. And they will travel differently than a box most of the time, so we factor in that aspect. Most of all it is how the envelope will lay on a sorting line and have the label facing the scanner AND at the end when the person delivering it will easily be able to see the label.

So it seems to us that using a bit more expensive and certain size box, and doing the same for bubble envelopes is a good thing for our customers to get their orders timely without delay and intact.  It is just how we would want to get something we ordered and we are sure it is how you like it also.

Thank you as always for your time and business!
